A. You have not stated the duration of fever before doing the test. Test result within seven days of fever and in the second week is required for a diagnosis. Even then, S typhi H + 1 : 160 means a four times rise of antigen which is described as highly significant for typhoid fever.

A. Basically if you've had Typhoid before you may always test positive on a widal test, but not necessarily. Typhoid fever and salmonellosis in general are endemic in the Philippines. Epidemiologic studies in an endemic country have shown that at least seven subclinical cases occur for each clinical case.2 A "positive" Widal test may therefore be seen in apparently healthy persons from an endemic area as a result of a previous subclinical infection. It has been reported that 55% among 3,307 healthy Filipinos have detectable O and H agglutinins.3 Although the geometric mean titers reported in this group of healthy subjects were low at 1:62 for O and 1:75 for H agglutinins, more recent studies done on a smaller population of apparently normal… [cont.]

Q. how do we interpret widal test to diagnose typhoid fever?
Asked by dranil2000 - Sun Jan 28 07:36:35 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This test is now outdated. there are better tests. However, generally, a titre of 1: 60 or more is supposed to be diagnostic for endemic areas, otherwise, 1: 80 or more. Rising titre is more significant, i.e. when you repeat the test after a few days, the titre is more. Widal is positive late in the first week of illness onwards. Initially, O antibodies rise and later, F antibodies are more. F antibodies indicate previous infection or vaccination.

Q. My daughter is 7 years old, the test is done in second week of her fever. one doctor says there is a problem, other says there is a need to worry, I am confused
Asked by rajitha - Tue Dec 8 00:44:57 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The reason that you can find two different doctors saying two different things is that there is a disagreement as to the diagnostic titer for a single Widal test. Generally, this test is done twice, 7 to 10 days apart, and the doctors are looking for a rise in the numbers. A single test is rather meaningless and the number for positive or negative is different according to where you are in the world. In areas where typhus is endemic or where anti-typhus treatments are given the Widal test numbers have higher numbers for negative results than in other areas.

A. Widal test The Widal test is a serological test for Salmonella typhi. It is a demonstration of salmonella antibodies against antigens O-somatic and H-flagellar in the blood. It is used to ascertain the presence of typhoid fever. However, it is not a very accurate method, since we are often exposed to other bacteria (e.g. Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella typhimurium) in this species that induce cross-reactivity; many people have antibodies against this enteric pathogens, which also react with the antigens in the Widal test, causing a false-positive result. Typhidot is the other test used to ascertain the presence of typhoid fever Other means of diagnosing Salmonella typhi (and paratyphi) include cultures of blood, urine and feces.

Take one tab twice a day with Pravahi Dashmool Kwath 2 tsp. mixed in water twice a day. Stop all antibiotics as they are bad for you and your chiled. Your chiled will develop immunity towards antibiotics and in future not respond to treatment. People come to me for treatment after suffering from this type of fever for 2 to 3 years as fever enters bone marrow and there is no antibiotic to cure it.

cause of fever with high grade more than 7 days?
Q. fever comes with chills and reaches upto 102.2 all investigations are normal like p.b.f. widal test ,urine exam and culture and slide for malarial parasite,x-ray chest and ultra sound
Asked by dr_pandeys - Thu May 10 00:06:58 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sounds like that your healthcare provider has started looking for what may be causing your illness. It also sounds like everything is coming out negative. You could get a blood culture, but it just may be a viral infection. If it is a viral infection there is no medical intervention other then lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids and lots reading or TV time.. If it is a viral infection your body will fight off what you have. So in time you will feel better. But if you notice that you are not getting better you should see your helathcare provider to follow up.. Take care, hope you feel better soon.

A. Definitely see another doctor as soon as possible. There could be many different causes but as long as he continues to vomit he's losing fluid and can become dehydrated, which could make this situation critical.
