Why do I get abdominal pain right after eating a banana?
Q. When I look up abdominal pain and bananas, they say to eat bananas because they are bland. Not me. They cause immediate pain. I've experimented with other foods to ensure it is in fact bananas causing it.

A. The "worst" criticism of bananas that I can find on the net is that they are a mild laxative. For me, however, they are a strong, almost instantaneous laxative, sometimes accompanied by stomach cramping, which can be severe. I have heard others warn against eating bananas that are too green, saying this causes discomfort for them. My doctor has no information on these effects. Bananas are known to be a very good source of potassium. My personal theory is that, for some people, ingesting a banana results in an intolerably high level of the potassium in the body. The body attempts to rid itself of the "offending" substance as rapidly as possible. If I am correct , the use of "lite salt" exacerbates the problem,… [cont.]

What are some of the causes of abdominal pain?
Q. My daughter has been complaining of abdominal pain for over a week. I took her to the emergency room and the doctor said she was constipated and gave her an enema. She was fine for two days and now says her stomach hurts again. She says the pain is right behind her navel. Could it be her appendix? Or maybe a hernia? She was born with navel hernia, but it went away when she was a year old. Could it have come back?

A. Constipation has an easy cure. Adding 30 % fiber to the diet, will take care of it. Vegetables and fruits are a good source of fiber, as is Raisin Bran Cereal for breakfast. If her problem still persists. then have her see a Doctor to check out the appendix or the possible hernia,

A. Have the colonoscopy and an endoscopy. You need to have a thorough examination of your digestive system. Bloody stools are not normal and should not be taken lightly. Persistent pain is also something to take seriously. As for your bowel pattern, that is okay as long as that is normal for you. People dwell on the fact that everyone should be going every day or every other day. But in your case you go every 4th day, which is fine..as long as your stools don't cause you discomfort while going. However, when there is blood in the stool, that isn't good..especially visible blood. Get it checked out!!! The colonoscopy will examine your bowels while the endoscopy will examine other areas of the system. You can also have an upper gastrointestinal… [cont.]

How do you know if you have abdominal pain or just a stomach ache?
Q. When my tummy hurts, I don't know whether it is a stomach ache, a pain in the tummy or abdominal pain.
Asked by Melissa - Fri Dec 8 01:06:14 2006 - Women's Health - 4 Answers - Comments
A. This is easy, you divide your abdomen. Your abdomen from the belly button down could be uterus and ovaries. Belly button down and only lower right, appendix. Abdomen and upper right(ones own right) under rib cage, could be gall bladder. After you eat, if you get any burning and any regurgitation could be too much acid in your stomach. Try not sitting down at least 1-2 hrs after eating. Also gallbladder pain comes more often after you eat greasy foods, fried foods. Overall see a doctor to see what is going on. You may need antacids, or something for heartburn etc. Hope this helps some

Question on abdominal pain and varying temperature of the body?
Q. Hi! We do not have health insurance right now and my daughter has severe abdominal attacks. For two years, we have wasted a lot of time and money on doctor visits that have not helped my daughter. Recently she had another abdominal attack, related to her cycle. She gets them so bad that she ends up doubling over in pain, and often gets headaches and throws up. What's worse is that she's extremely allergic to ibuprofen and/or Motrin, and Pamprin. She's also allergic to citric acid and most fragrances. Another issue that we recently discovered is that when she gets these pains, her abdomen gets really cold while the other parts of her body is warmer, or sometimes it's the opposite situation (abdomen extremely warm, but the rest of the body… [cont.]

A. Excately what would happen to me for years!!! And trust me, it is PAINFUL. There is really nothing that can be done by doctors if she is allergic, except to give birth (now I have a three year old, and since I gave birth, No Pain). However I did notice that something did help with the pain. Before the period starts, have your daughter take an enema. Sometimes the gas that is built up in the intestines contributes to the menstrul pains. It helped me a lot. Good luck and tell her that somebody out there knows what she is going through and sympathizes.

What can cause sporadic and excruciating upper and lower abdominal pain that causes frequent urinating in men?
Q. My partner has been suffering from this sporadic and severely painful bouts of abdominal pain since he was young but as they were only every now and then and were unpredictable he just put up with them. But of late they have been getting worse and have been keeping him awake all night as well as rendering him basically immobile. They can be in the upper or lower abdomen and cause him to urinate more frequently. What can cause this type of pain? I have no idea what to do for him!
Asked by - Sun Aug 23 03:30:16 2009 - Pain & Pain Management - 5 Answers - Comments
A. It is impossible to guess and too important to give the wrong information. It could be anything from a serious kidney problem to constipation. The frequency of micturition could indicate a bladder or kidney infection or could be caused by stress. Please tell him he must make an appointment to see his doctor. That is the best thing you can do other than give comfort and support during these episodes. Notice if anything in particular precedes them, a certain food, stress for example

Is it normal to have lower abdominal pain during pregnancy?
Q. I am 26 weeks pregnant with my second child, Today I have been having dull lower abdominal pain off and on for a couple of hours. No bleeding and no contractions that I have noticed, just this weird dull pain, I took a bath but it doesn't seem to subside. I did not have any pain like this while pregnant with my son.

A. I am 25 weeks pregnant, and have had this same type of pain off and on for the past few weeks. I called my midwife and she told me not to worry. You have muscles and tendons and ligaments in your lower abdomen that are being stretched and strained. Sometimes I feel like I have done about 800 crunches, sometimes it feels more akin to period cramps. I am also on my second pregnancy, and didn't have this problem with my son either, BUT my stomach was in much better shape this time around. I would still call your provider just to be on the safe side. Congrats on the pregnancy!

What does it mean when you have lower abdominal pain?
Q. So recently, every time I wake up in the morning, I get a painful lower abdominal pain. It's sometimes real quick. But mostly whenever I go to use the restroom it hurts so bad! Like if i'm starting my period even though I just got off it about 2 weeks ago. It's major cramps when I use the restroom, or whenever I sit down. Should I be worried? What could it might be? Is there a cure? Should I go to the doctor? HELP! Oh, and i'm 16 years of age.

What causes sudden hearing loss with periods and abdominal pain?
Q. I experience sudden hearing loss and vision loss when I have sudden menstrual cramps (Dysmenorrhea). This also happens when I experience abdominal pain related to diarrhea or constipation, which sometimes happens right before my period starts. Sometimes the GI system and the uterus are both affected at the same time. When I lose my hearing, all I hear is ringing, and everything turns bright, unless Im in a dark hallway. Indoors, I cant see. I think my pupils dilate and the blood flow to my ears constricts. What causes this?
Asked by stewey - Sun Dec 23 03:44:39 2007 - Women's Health - 1 Answers - Comments
A. There could be a number of possibilities going on such as endometriosis (just using endometriosis as an example only) but the only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

What could be the cause of lower abdominal pain after intercourse?
Q. Without fail after intercourse I get abdominal pain, almost identical to menstruation pain. This can last a day up to a week (but the severity of pain does decrease within this time). When my partner is fully penetrated there is a clicking sound where we believe his penis is hitting then flicking past my cervix. This doesn't necessarily hurt but after a while it does tend to ache.

A. you should go to the doctor. thats not normal especially to have that pain for so long and it can be dangerous if you continue to go without doing anything about it. We can only tell you so much online but you should be examined.
