A. The high fiber content of the beans could play havic on your intestines if you are not used to it. And some people do not digest beans well.

Acute, generalised pain, worse when breathing... anyone know what it is?
Q. A few minutes ago I started getting weird pain in my abdomen, from the front, central area to up under my ribs, and it radiates up over my chest when breathing. When it's worse it feels like it hurts at the back of my throat and around my eyes. Here's what it's not: - Heart pain. - Asthma/respiratory problems. - So serious that I need to seek medical attention. I think it's probably a mild abdominal problem... does anyone recognise these symptoms? I'm male, 19.

A. I'm pretty sure you may be dehydrated. Continually over the next 24-48 hours sip water, don't drown yourself but to hydrate. If you don't feel better you should go for a check up. I have had this many times and that is always what it was.

A. Really are about the same for acute care. If you need trauma they are much different. They get a rating I, II, III. Level I can take anything. They much have a neurosurgeon on call and able to get their within 30 mins...allso many other kind of doctors. Neonatal also has different ratings. Level I is the hopital that can handle the really ill infants. A difference in some hospitals or medical center is if they are affiliated with an educational inistituion so they will have residents. Ps NEVER go to a hospital that has residents in July...could be really bad (new one's come on board) Hope this helps

A. About 3 years ago, I kept getting unexplained abdominal pain and sickness. This would come and go over a period of around 5 months or so. My doctor could not explain it and kept putting it down to effects of gastroenteritis I had the year before. In the August, I woke in the early hours of the morning with severe pain in my upper right abdomen. I went to the emergency doctor at the local A&E, and he suggested it was a kidney stone, gave me a shot of morphine for the pain and sent me home. A few hours later, I was back in the A&E as the pain was still severe and had moved down to my lower right abdomen. The town I live in only has a small hospital, so doctor I saw rushed me to a city hospital in an ambulance as she suspected appendicitis. … [cont.]

In Acute Care for ventilatory Support, is there a medical excepted guideline for choosing the various modes of?
Q. Ventilation. Like CMV, assist control simv, PSV, and a sequence to change modes?
Asked by Bruce J - Sun Aug 9 11:58:53 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The criteria for which mode of ventilation you choose is a combination of cause of the respiratory failure, the patient's medical history, the results of the ABG's. CMV and A/C modes are generally not used any longer. Back in the sixties all we had for CMV was the Emerson Post Op and for A/C the Bird mark 7,8,9,10,14 series. As technology improved along with better antibiotics, and critical care techniques, improved heart surgery etc. patients surviving and coming off the ventilator required that we develop better ventilatory methods. PEEP, simv and cpap were born. Sorry to take so long to say there is no set criteria. There are guidelines as to abnormal ABG's but between patient variables and disease variables the treatment is on a case… [cont.]

A. if you don't feel sick or tired, you can try to tire yourself out physically with some moderate cardio exercises and see if that helps. drinking a warm glass of milk right before bedtime also works for some people (i'm lactose intolerant so it doesn't work for me) or you might try some sleeping pills, but try to fall asleep naturally first and use the pills as a last resort. 60 hours without any shuteye sounds pretty serious, because it might indicate something else is wrong with you (in which case you'll probably need to go see an endocrinologist or neurologist). also not sleeping is tremendously damaging to the body, even though sleeping is really one big waste of time, i wouldn't do it if i didn't have to.

Is there a medical condition higher than critical?
Q. When a person is put in a triage situation after an accident there are 3 or 4 different catagories they put you in right? Are they acute, serious, critical and fatal? More specifically is there a condition higher than being in critical condition but not fatal? If so what is that condition called. Also if you know what order the conditions are from least serious to the most serious would you please list them?
Asked by babycattos - Tue Nov 7 16:48:13 2006 - - 6 Answers - 2 Comments
A. In triage, there are three classifications: Those who will be okay without treatment, those who will die even with treatment, and those who can be saved but will die without treatment. Only the last group gets treated. The word "triage" even means "three," so there are not four classifications in triage. "Critical" and "serious" refer to a person's condition at a hospital, not under triage. Those two terms are the only ones with clear meanings. Critical means that treatment is required within a critical period, while serious means that death is unlikely in the next 24 hours, but close monitoring and constant care is still required. The only thing worse that critical is, as was mentioned, "Dead on Arrival." "Stable" means that there… [cont.]

Given the acute shortage of organs, why do we still accord a higher status to the deceased than to the living?
Q. In England, and I suspect in the USA, too, thousands of terminally ill patients are waiting for a transplant of some kind, many will be unlucky and will die before an organ can be found. Why do people still morally object to changing the law to an "opt out" system that countries in Europe have used successfully, whereby if you object to having your organs harvested after you die for medical use you can make your opinon known to the authorities before that fateful day and automatically come off the donar register list. Do we value the life of the dead more than the living?

Why is the most severe floor of a hospital the top one?
Q. Why is it that the top floor of a hospital is usually for patients in serious condition? My grandpa died yesterday between leaving the ER and reaching level 14 (the oncology floor). I was just wondering if any one knew why they do this? I know this year alone we have been on 3 (Surgical ICU) 9 (Stroke Unit) 12 (Acute Medical Care) and 14 (Oncology).

A. I think it's b/c the majority of ppl visiting carry germs from the outside so they put as much distance as possible b/w those potential pathogens and the critically ill patients. Every hospital i have worked in does this.

What does chronic and acute mean in medicine?
Q. I just finished watching a House episode (medical drama) and they used the terms "chronic" and "acute" quite frenquently. I know that it has to do with the duration and stuff, but what do they actually mean?

A. Chronic - rumbling on and on Acute - sudden and intense Examples:- Chronic back pain is where someone suffers pain in the back for years, sometimes its worse than at other times but it never really goes away Acute Appendicitis: the sudden and painful onset of an infected appendix requiring urgent medical attention before the appendix ruptures.

My Dad has been passed from Methodist Hospital to a nursing home and back to a Long term acute care hospital?
Q. in the original medical center. That freaking bed sore on his foot has been fairly ignored as if its not treatable and the infectious disease control people came by and put him on antibiotics for testing a positive culture for acinetobacter baumannii. The Dr. told me to please share whatever I learn about it with him because he would love to know more about what it is. ??? Whats going ON here?
