I've been "back scratch" tested for allergies. Can the doctors do a allergy tests for specific types of dogs?
Q. I have many allergies and was tested years ago on my back for various things. I have food, pet, indoor, outdoor allergies. Pretty much everything. But my husband wants a dog, and I really would like to get a german sheperd. Can the doctor test me for that specific type of dog? Hanging out with one would be another alternative, I know, but I was just curious if this option is available.
Asked by BlackDahlia - Thu Apr 10 00:31:50 2008 - Allergies - 4 Answers - Comments

A. The problem with dogs and cats a lot of times is that people are allergic to their dander--- NOT their hair. There are some dogs that are supposedly better than others in this regard. You can google for a list, but I remember a "Labradoodle" is supposed to be one. Still, if the dog sometimes goes outside, it usually runs through the grass and brings in pollen, etc.-- which you might also be allergic to. Dogs and cats are not that great for allergy sufferers. There are things you can do to try and reduce their negative effect, but that fact remains.

What is the historical idea of "tension related diseases/problems in health"?

Asked by - Wed Apr 27 12:56:11 2011 - History - 2 Answers - Comments

A. This "historical idea"has a good basis in medical science today. When people experience chronic stress the hormone cortisol is released.Cortisol has the established effect of suppressing the immune system, causing bone loss, and triggering diabetes. This is only one of many different ways that the mind adversely affects the body. and remember: it works both ways: the body can afflict or influence the mind as well.

I'm confused about allergies... during "allergy season", do symptoms stick around or come and go?
Q. Everyone is telling me that both of my children (5 and 1) could have allergies. They both have had several "colds" within the last few months and they always get it at the same time. I don't have allergies myself, but I always assumed that you would have allergy symptoms throughout the entire allergy season. But am I wrong? Do the symptoms come and go?
Asked by ticktock - Wed Jun 9 12:20:07 2010 - Allergies - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Symptoms come and go when the allergen flares. For example if you are allergic to pollen you are always allergic to pollen there are just specific days that the pollen count is high enough to cause you to have allergy symptoms. The same goes for the common allergens like mold, dust, ragweed, etc.

Can my allergy medicine cause "cotton mouth"?
Q. I was taking Singular, Claritin & Benadryl without any problems. I have started taking Zyrtec since it is OTC instead of the Claritin. My allergy-induced asthma symptoms are much better but I seem to have "cotton mouth" and very dry lips now. Is this from the Zyrtec? Is it okay to combine all of these?
Asked by wannaknow - Thu May 1 22:32:05 2008 - Allergies - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Yes allergy meds tend to give you dry mouth. You shouldn't have to combine all of these and I wouldn't do so. Your Dr. should be prescribing an appropriate medication for your asthma symptoms and your allergies.

A. Those would be really good questions to ask your Health teacher (or whichever class you're doing this for), consult your textbook or notes from class, or ask in the Homework Help section... it's against the To S (not to mention cheating) to have someone else do your homework for you. And since the internet is open to all and widely searched by teachers, it's probably a better idea to delete this question before your teacher sees it and finds out you've been cheating. ;-) And so I'm not in violation of the To S, I'll give an answer. They're caused by stress and tense situations; as often as they happen; neurosis can be similar, but isn't always; theories have existed since the first case of tension; they build up all over (in muscles and in… [cont.]

Q. i have read that it prevents heart attacks, heart diseases, cancer, acne, high blood pressure, and diabetes, but what other things does exercise prevent?
Asked by Aryz D - Thu Jul 9 18:20:21 2009 - Other - Health - 3 Answers - Comments

A. 1. Exercise improves your mood. Need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help you calm down. Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals, which may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You'll also look better and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise even reduces feelings of depression and anxiety. 2. Exercise combats chronic diseases. Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent osteoporosis? Regular exercise might be the ticket. Regular exercise can help you prevent or manage high blood pressure. Your cholesterol will benefit, too. Regular exercise boosts high-d [cont.]

Q. My boyfriend has been suffering from serious nasal congestion and a dry cough for about a month. He has seen several doctors and nothing they have given him has helped. We're hoping something from a health food store might work.

A. You don't need a health food store. Buy local honey... Honey that is made from within 25 miles from your home... Use it every day in tea or coffee and the allergeies will subside within a couple weeks.

"faiure to thrive" Will those with chronic diseases get medical care in a timely fashion?
Q. National Health care = Population Control "faiure to thrive" is on the death certificate when the deceased was slowly overdosed on morphine, for various reasons. Will those with chronic diseases get medical care in a timely fashion?
Asked by Sara - Fri Aug 21 14:50:30 2009 - Politics - 7 Answers - Comments

A. Yes, they will. And "failure to thrive" describes a condition where everything medically that can be done has been tired and the person still fails to thrive. Sometimes elderly people just plain give up on wanting live and it has nothing to do with overdose of morphine.

What is a good allergy medicine to use for allergies?
Q. I am using Claritin right now for my allergies but, it doesn't seem to work! Does anybody know any good allergy medicine that has worked for them? Thanks in advance!!!
Asked by magicman29 - Thu May 28 01:01:34 2009 - Allergies - 13 Answers - Comments

A. If Claritin did or is not working you need to see a Dr. I have many allergies and take many different medication for different things. I hesitate to state a list of names as with out seeing a MD it would be so easy to take the incorrect medication that could end up doing you more harm than good.Allergies are not any fun my heart goes out to you.

What do you prefer: "Natural medicine" or the Vet?
Q. I was just skimming through the questions and noticed that a lot of people are in support of "natural" or "holistic" cures for animals. Is it bad to take allergy medicine when you aren't having allergies?
Q. I have trouble sleeping at night. I found some Benadryl allergy pills, and I am hoping they might make me more sleepy. Is it OK for me to take a couple pills to help me sleep even though I am not experiencing any allergies at the moment? Thx!
Asked by bb - Wed Jul 7 00:48:21 2010 - Allergies - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Benadryl is also suggested as a remedy to take when a passenger on an airplane to help reduce anxiety. You should be fine, but the only disadvantage you might have is that Benadryl dries out the sinuses and could dehydreate you a bit - make sure you drink lots of fluids the next day.

How will the new "health care reform" placed in the stimulus bill affect alternative medicine?
Q. The proposed health care reform will define which doctors are "meaningful users" of the system, and I was wondering if alternative health care providers (chiropractors, massage therapists, etc) will be considered "meaningful users".
Asked by xanadeu - Wed Feb 11 12:32:28 2009 - Law & Ethics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. The proposed "Health Care Reform" included in the stimulus is designed to do one thing: allow the government to decide who lives and who dies in order to "boost efficiency".
