A. The dilutions you mentioned are insignificant really! But as a precaution you can take soft bland diet , easily digestible. No oily or spicy food .Best is toned milk and rice with boiled vegetables and butter milk for about a month. That is more than enough.

A. Salmonella is closely related to the Escherichia genus and are found worldwide in cold- and warm-blooded animals (including humans), and in the environment. They cause illnesses like typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and foodborne illness. Diagnosis of typhoid is made by any blood, bone marrow or stool cultures and with the Widal test (demonstration of salmonella antibodies against antigens O-somatic and H-flagellar). The Widal test is positive if TO antigen titer is more than 1:160 in an active infection, or if TH antigen titer is more than 1:160 in past infection or in immunized persons.

A. Hi, I am an MD. The cutoff for a "positive" typhoid titer is controversial, but 1:80 is in the gray zone for this disease. I would tend to be conservative and treat the disease when titers are equivocal. It is probably about a 50:50 chance that he has typhoid. Best wishes!

Q. microbial quality of ice cream in kathmandu valley.

A. Freezing is NOT an effective way of killing Salmonella. Although Salmonella is sensitive to freezing in water, the protein in the ice cream protects the Salmonella. There have been documented cases of Salmonella infections from raw eggs in frozen ice cream. If you are dealing with the public, particularly sensitive populations like children, you should avoid uncooked eggs unless they are irradiated or "Pasteurized". Microbial Quality of Ice Cream Sold in Kathmandu Results Out of total, 44 samples (61.1%), 49 samples (68.1%) and 16 samples (22.2%) exceeded standard value of mesophilic aerobic count, total coliform count and Staphylococcal count respectively. Q.
Asked by iiiiii - Thu Nov 30 22:43:01 2006 - Infectious Diseases - 1 Answers - Comments
A. According to the CDC system, the genus Salmonella contains two species, each of which contains multiple serotypes (Table 1). The two species are S. enterica, the type species, and S. bongori, which was formerly subspecies V (19, 21). S. enterica is divided into six subspecies (4, 19), which are referred to by a Roman numeral and a name (I, S. enterica subsp. enterica; II, S. enterica subsp. salamae; IIIa, S. enterica subsp. arizonae; IIIb, S. enterica subsp. diarizonae; IV, S. enterica subsp. houtenae; and VI, S. enterica subsp. indica). S. enterica subspecies are differentiated biochemically (4, 19) and by genomic relatedness (6, 19, 21). CDC uses names for serotypes in subspecies I (for example, serotypes Enteritidis, Typhimurium, Typhi,… [cont.]

salmonella typhi Ig M - negative, but all WIDAL are positive except S par A-H and S par C-H, what should I do?
Q. I don't want to take 2weeks antibiotics if there is no typhoid.. doctors are saying different things.. symptoms are not totally corresp. those of typhoid fever. i'm in Indonesia. symptoms: hight fever for 24 h, then 37,2 for a week.. weakness bronchitis headache sweating no weigh loss, no stomachache
Asked by - Wed Aug 31 02:11:02 2011 - Infectious Diseases - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Typhoid Ig M negative / Widal positive would suggest that you had typhoid fever in the past. The two ways to confirm this would be #1 blood culture (attempt to isolate Salmonella Typhi from your blood) or #2 repeat the Widal test in 3-4 weeks. If the Widal titre has increased, you like have an acute case of typhoid. If the Widal titre is unchanged (or decreases), you likely had typhoid in the past. The fever is also atypical for typhoid. Typhoid typically produces as "step-ladder" fever - the fever progressively increases over a period of several days. Have your doctors explored other infections (Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, Meliodiosis)?
