What will makes this "off balance" sinus allergy feeling go away? I have seasonal allergies and rhinitis.
Q. I've tried Nasal sprays and allergy pills and none of them seem to work! HELP!

A. You may have inner ear pressure i get that and really bad pain. Maybe a decongestion medication. Allergy meds dont usually have them unless they are like sudafed allergy or something.

I'm confused about allergies... during "allergy season", do symptoms stick around or come and go?
Q. Everyone is telling me that both of my children (5 and 1) could have allergies. They both have had several "colds" within the last few months and they always get it at the same time. I don't have allergies myself, but I always assumed that you would have allergy symptoms throughout the entire allergy season. But am I wrong? Do the symptoms come and go?

A. Symptoms come and go when the allergen flares. For example if you are allergic to pollen you are always allergic to pollen there are just specific days that the pollen count is high enough to cause you to have allergy symptoms. The same goes for the common allergens like mold, dust, ragweed, etc.

What is a really good allergy/cold medicine found in a health food store?
Q. My boyfriend has been suffering from serious nasal congestion and a dry cough for about a month. He has seen several doctors and nothing they have given him has helped. We're hoping something from a health food store might work.

A. You don't need a health food store. Buy local honey... Honey that is made from within 25 miles from your home... Use it every day in tea or coffee and the allergeies will subside within a couple weeks.

Is it bad to take allergy medicine when you aren't having allergies?
Q. I have trouble sleeping at night. I found some Benadryl allergy pills, and I am hoping they might make me more sleepy. Is it OK for me to take a couple pills to help me sleep even though I am not experiencing any allergies at the moment? Thx!
Asked by bb - Wed Jul 7 00:48:21 2010 - Allergies - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Benadryl is also suggested as a remedy to take when a passenger on an airplane to help reduce anxiety. You should be fine, but the only disadvantage you might have is that Benadryl dries out the sinuses and could dehydreate you a bit - make sure you drink lots of fluids the next day.

Has anyone found an allergy medicine that's very effective at treating allergies to cats?
Q. A good friend of mine and I would like to get an apartment together since we live in the same city and sharing rent would be much cheaper than living separately. The only problem is that she has a cat, and I am very allergic. I've been to her current apartment once, and within about 15 minutes, my eyes got puffy and itchy and I started sneezing and wheezing and had to leave. Has anyone had any experience with an antihistamine that's effective enough in treating a cat allergy that they could actually live with a cat?

What are ways to keep allergy shots from "leaking"?
Q. I started taking allergy shots this fall and now I leak the extract. The last time I got my shots she said more extract leaked out than stayed in. I am looking for what may cause this and possible tips to keep it from happening. They keep telling me if I leak then I will need shots longer. We have tried Z tracking, limiting liquids the morn before the shots and taking them lower on the arm. No luck. Any suggestions?

What side effects do you have with your allergy medicine?
Q. I found this article on AOL health and thought it was interesting. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed any of the side effects mentioned with this article. I'm on zyrtec and have had increasing weight gain and mood problems since being on it, but I never considered that those might be side effects from my allergy medicine. Has anyone else noticed side effects from their allergy meds?

What is the best allergy medicine for nasal congestion and all other allergies?
Q. I have the worst nasal congestion, and my throat gets very itchy, my eyes get red, swollen and very itchy as well. My nose gets itchy too. Anyone has any suggestions as to which medicine will be the best for all those or each one? I've tried claritin, etc., etc. Thank you

A. Cetrizine hydrochloride is good for nasal allergies. Highly sedative side effect. Home Remedy: Saute 2gm of turmeric powder in one gm of clarified butter for 2 mins, till reddish in color. Add 1 tbsp of pure raw honey and take it while hot. Do this 3 times a day. Have green tea with raw honey. Drink a lot of spring water. 400 mg Vit.E and 800 mg of Vit.C will help. Chewable Magnesium tablets will help.
